The construction industry is a major CO2 driver and contributes significantly to environmental pollution. Despite rising prices for construction materials and the increasing scarcity of resources, construction materials are not sufficiently reused or recycled.
Another major problem is storage logistics: it is often unclear where on the site which materials can be reused and at what point of time. This lack of transparency hinders efficient recycling and contributes to a poor carbon footprint in the construction sector. Current processes are often inefficient and based on insufficient data, making it difficult to reuse materials and shortening the life cycle of these.
Warranty also plays a role in the reuse of building components. Data sheets are often not available.
When elements (doors, windows) are reinstalled, the construction company is required to provide a warranty which is often unable to be fulfilled.
Ultimately, the use of a data platform can help to make the construction process more transparent, thereby mitigating the scarcity of resources and promoting the principles of the circular economy.
