Dust emissions pose a far-reaching problem for nature and human health. Debris is stored on the former runways of Berlin TXL and construction work creates areas that release dust because of wind. This dust not only pollutes the environment, but also affects the health of local residents and employees on site.
If excessive dust formation occurs, targeted measures are required. This can include watering the affected areas, covering the material or, in the long term, greening areas (e.g. areas cleared of ordnance). Particularly in the short term, measures are often taken late and in an uncoordinated manner due to a lack of transparency in the situation. Monitoring could, for example, make it possible to send reports on time and to initiate and coordinate dust reduction measures more efficiently.
Less dust means better living conditions for plants and animals, which is conducive to sustainable cultivation. Furthermore, clean green spaces contribute to the well-being of the neighbourhood.
